Big Move for an Artist in a Down Economy

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

TraillWorks saw it's best year yet in 2009. I was about to resign a lease at my current 350 sq foot studio / gallery when I realized that I could afford a larger space.

I have had such a wonderful two years at 135 Spring Street, but decided for many reasons that I need a bigger space. One has been waiting for me at 214 Spring Street. I've always admired the space since exhibiting there in 2006 when it was an upscale boutique called Radiant Essentials and now seems like the right time.

Newton is a small town in rural Sussex county, NJ. It's the heart of the county due to its central location and role as the county seat. It has been in the midst of a revitalization for a couple of years which will now be cemented by the relocation of Thorlabs, an optics and laser company into the town. Newton is a Main Street NJ community that offers independently owned boutiques and art galleries as well as some award-winning restaurants. Visit Newton on a 2nd Saturday and you'll find arts events, merchant driven promotions, workshops, and shops open late, often with live music. This month we have a sweetheart walk with an ice carving competition. It's a small town with a lot of charm that's been getting a lot of media attention in the past two years.

The success I had last year while adjusting to life with a new child, along with the positive changes in Newton give me the courage to take the leap into a larger, more professional space. I'm not leaving 135 until the end of February and there are so many things I'm doing while at my old space. Read my last blog post for details.

I look forward to sharing TraillWorks' new location with you in about a month!
